Baccarat is no doubt, one of the most popular table games in casinos today. Its popularity hasn’t dwindled in the many years since it existed, and hasn’t shown any sign of slowing down from among its patrons. How do you win at Baccarat? Is there a Baccarat strategy that can beat the game consistently in extended play? This is the question I’m sure all gamblers want to know.

Talking about a winning Baccarat strategy, I am reminded of the woman I met in a casino long time ago. It was midnight yet the casino was still full of players. I wasn’t playing that time; I was sitting at one of the casino couches at the side, taking a rest. There was a show at a distant away and I think someone popular in town was performing. I was staring at the show but my mind was somewhere.

Then this middle aged woman sat beside me and started a conversation. She seemed friendly so we got along well. At first we talked about the ongoing show and then we talked about her problem. She said she is short of cash and so she selling her house. She asked me whether or not I am interested to buy it. She said her house is small, but it is in a commercial district so she is selling it at two million pesos.

I courteously declined saying I didn’t live in the city and so I did not intend to buy any house. I said I only come to this city to play in casinos. She gave me her card nonetheless saying I might need it if I would change my mind, or I might find someone who might be interested. She said she would give me a 5% commission if the house is sold through me.

I was curious then why she would sell her house. It turns out she was divorced by her husband just very recently, and so she got the house. She didn’t want to be reminded of the memory so is selling it. But in between her lines I sensed she might have gambling problem though she did not make it obvious to me. She blamed her husband on their divorce saying he wasn’t understanding enough on her pastime.

Then our conversation turned to gambling. She said she used to be a slot gambler, but after not seeing any profit for a very long time she switched to Baccarat. She bragged to me she had found a pattern in Baccarat that made her an expert player. “Wow” I said to myself. “This woman found something me and the rest of the gamblers haven’t found in a century.” She finally got my attention. I bend closer to her, eager to listen what she might add to say.

So she took me by the hand and brought me to the nearest Baccarat game. The game was half way through as shown in the score sheet. “See that score sheet.” she said, “It says the Banker hand prevailed in the first half of the cards, so we should start betting in the Player hand!” Ugh. I dare not laugh.

This woman is committing gambling’s most popular fallacy – that whatever event that hasn’t occurred a long time is due to occur very soon. The sad reality is that most Baccarat gamblers are believers of this fallacy. In fact there are plenty of Baccarat gamblers who will not sit at a table unless they had seen a pattern in the dealt half of the cards in the shoe. There are also gamblers that record the results themselves for their convenience. It saddens me when I see this kind of gamblers – they might as well throw their score sheets away.

I say this is not the way to win at Baccarat. Each deal is independent with other deals, which simply means that every deal is not reliant on the deal before are after it. It does not follow that because Banker hand came three in a row Player hand is likely come next. Yet the misconception still continues.
