How to Play Video Poker Slot Machines

Video Poker is a game that requires some skill to play and bridges the gap between slot machines and table games for many players. It’s still easy and fun to play, but you have the potential to maximize your gains by being able to put the odds in your favour, making it a more involving playing experience. In most casinos video poker machines, (when played correctly), give a lower house edge than other online slot machines. When video poker machines first appeared in casinos, the only game played was Jacks or better draw poker. Today, there are over 100 variations of the game and they can all be played online.

How to Play

Video Poker is derived from draw poker and has the same rules, except that you are not playing against any other players, just a machine. The machine deals five cards on the screen. The player can if they want, take up to five new cards. The player keeps the cards they want to keep by hitting the “hold” button that corresponds to the individual card shown. When the choice is made the player hits the “deal” button, and the cards discarded are replaced by new cards. The result of the game is determined by the outcome after the final hand is completed. How much you win (if at all) is shown on the pay table that is on machine the player is playing. Video slots have better graphics and more effects than three-reel slots, and create an overall more visual and exciting gaming experience.

The Pay Table & Return

The major advantage that video poker has over other slot machines is that the return of the game can be calculated by reading the pay table on the front of the machine. Most video poker games use the combinations of hands that can be made from a 52-card deck. There are some Joker Poker Games that use one / two Jokers added to the deck. For example, the game Deuces Wild uses a 52-card deck but the deuces are wild cards. The number of combinations that can be made from the cards used in the game means the payout can be worked out by what the machine pays for each winning combination.

There are 2,598,960 possible hands from a 52-card deck. The programme in a video poker machine is set to simulate the probabilities of drawing any of these combinations. Because this is a set probability, the casino simply adjusts the pay table of the online machines to produce the house edge. There are software programs, books, courses, strategy cards, and online information sites where you can get relevant information to workout the payouts for each pay table. By knowing how to read a pay table, you can pick a machine with the best return and best odds of success.

Video Poker – Online Slot Machines with Skill

Many players start playing online slot machines, try video poker and stay with it. So why is online video poker one of the best online slot machines to play? Simply, it has all the fun and excitement of regular online slot machines, but there is also the possibility to put the odds a little in the players favour by introducing an element of skill. Many players who want to maximize their bankroll and payback like this!

Poker Tournament Formula – A Recipe For Winning

Apr 3rd

The game of poker is a game that is won by good decisions made at the right time. There is no clear cut winning a poker tournament formula.  But, there are poker tournament tips that can serve to guide any poker player in winning a tournament.  Playing a poker cash game is entirely different from playing in a tournament.  The ultimate goal in playing in a tournament is to win all the chips in play.  A more aggressive poker tournament formula is necessary to implement as part of poker tournament tips that could result in major winnings on the table.

Here are some poker tournament tips that any poker player who wants to do more than just sit around in tournaments should take note of:

  1. Know the difference between a ring game and a tournament.  The two are very different and the strategies that you should use in each of them also vary.  Do not lose sight of the objective of winning the entire pot in a tournament.  You need to play more hands in a tournament than you would in a ring game.
  2. Winning one poker coin flip after another would work to your favor.  Luck is a good ally to have in winning a tournament where you have to win a good number of coin flips to survive.  At this point, luck is essential as part of the triad with skill and experience.
  3. Keep your emotions at bay.  You have to know how to prevent tilt.  Keeping your cool throughout the tournament is important if you are to make the right bets and calls at the right time.  Remember that even as poker is a game of chance having a good head on your shoulders will help you piece together and analyze cues from other players on the table and make a winning call.
  4. Pay attention to the way your opponents are playing.  Being sensitive to the way each player on your table reacts is a skill that any successful poker player should have.  You should be able to read physical and verbal cues enough to predict the way a player on your table would act towards the game.  Being able to read your opponents well can be a powerful tool you can use to decide on whether or not to take calls or make raises.
  5. Know when to shift your strategy.  It is not always wise to keep to one playing strategy.  Winning a poker tournament takes a combination of risk-taking levels.  You can play tight at one point and play lose on another.  You just have to know the right time to use each strategy.

Poker tournaments have grown in popularity in recent years throughout the world.  A number of players have gotten into the game but only a lucky few have succeeded in ever making money from playing in tournaments.  It takes the right balance of playing strategies, luck, and generally a good gut feel of game and the opponents to win a poker tournament.

With the growing numbers of poker players, so goes the number of poker players in search of the winning poker tournament strategy.

Avoid being a losing player whilst honing your perfect poker strategy. At Texas Holdem Rules Poker, we’ll show you exactly how to develop a winning poker tournament formula.

Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy – Sit and Go Poker Tournaments

Apr 2nd

Welcome to the fourth in my Texas Holdem Strategy Series, focusing on no limit Texas Holdem poker tournament play and associated strategies. In this article, we’ll examine the “Sit and Go” tournament – the most popular online poker tournament format today.

When I first started playing in Sit and Go tournaments, I was beginning to think they called it “sit and go” because you sat down, played a little, then it was time to go do something else since you’d just been whacked and knocked out of the tournament! These tournaments can be really tough, since they’re effectively like being at the “final table” of a regular tournament.

The recent popularity of playing online Sit & Go tournaments sometimes amazes me. On any given evening, you can try to jump into a Sit and Go (SNG) table on Party Poker, for example, and easily find yourself competing just to get into a seat before that table fills up, forcing you to go find another table (especially on lower-entry fee tables). I’ve seen times when it can take up to 10 attempts to get into a Sit and Go tournament table during prime time. That’s because there are literally thousands of players across the world who are hungry to get into these tournaments and hopefully win some money.

All of the major online poker rooms now offer Sit and Go format games now, so you can find a place to play just about everywhere. You can think of these games as being very similar to small “satellite” tournament games that surround the bigger poker tournaments at traditional poker tournament venues. They also somewhat resemble play at a final table in a regular tournament, with one key exception – nobody at this table earned their way to this tournament table – they simply paid their entry-fee to play there. Because of this, the broad range of players and skill levels you’re likely to encounter varies wildly – one of many challenges you’ll face in Sit and Go play.

Generally, there are two types of Sit and Go tournaments offered. Single table and multi-table tournaments. Nowadays, there is also a faster game, sometimes referred to as “Turbo” mode SNG tournaments. In these games, the tempo of the tournament is much faster (blinds go up every 5 minutes instead of 15 minutes), with the blinds increasing much faster and less time allowed to make your decisions. This is a very challenging game format, but it does move along much faster than a traditional Sit and Go tournament.

You can also get into 4-player and heads-up (2 player) games, which just effectively puts you into the poker tournament final table, short-handed mode of operation immediately, so you can play the end-game out from there. I don’t really prefer these games, though, since there are far fewer players and therefore the pool size available to win is much smaller and not as worthwhile.

In general, two-table Sit and Go’s are much more profitable, since they begin with more players (18 to 20), making the prize pool larger and more attractive. Once you know how to play and win in these Sit and Go tournaments and can adjust your play appropriately, the number of tables and players really doesn’t matter as much, since you’ll be able to adapt your play quickly as the situation changes around you.

Some of my favorite places to play Sit & Go tournaments include Party Poker, Poker Stars and PrimaPoker’s Captain Cook’s poker rooms. There are many awesome poker rooms out there, with a wide range of players frequenting each of them. They are all very similar.

There are a number of different entry-fee levels to choose from, typically ranging from $5 up to $5,000. There is very little difference in playing in the lower limit games in the $5 to $30 range. When you get above the $30 threshold, the level of players you’ll encounter improves dramatically. The poker room site typically takes a “rake”, a fee of around 10% for hosting the tournament, and the balance of the funds go into the prize pool. In single-table SNG tournaments, the payout goes to the top 3 finishers. In two-table games, the top 4 places are generally paid.

In higher entry-fee games, you’ll be playing against some very good players. In these high tier games, you’ll encounter some of the best, most dangerous players around. If you’re interested in getting into these high stakes games, one way is to win enough at the lower stake games so that you earn, or leverage, your smaller entry-fees into the bigger games, a traditional way that satellite games work and a good approach to take.

I play in a lot of Sit and Go tournaments and regular tournaments, both online and in casinos and poker rooms. Throughout all of this, I have finally learned how to win consistently at Sit and Go tournaments. There are some key areas that you must focus on and shore up in order to properly “shape” your play and end up in the money.

You’ll need a well-rounded approach, though, to place in the money consistently at Sit and Go tournaments, including:

* Playing Position Correctly – you’ll need to know how to use position in the Sit and Go tournament to your advantage, which hands to play in which positions and how to keep from losing your chips from poor positions. Earlier in the tournament, it’s best to be more conservative with your play by only playing the best hands from the best positions.

* Adjusting to Changing Conditions – the key to winning Sit and Go tournaments is adjusting your play style and approach as the blinds and number of players increases. Done correctly, you’ll end up in the final 3 in the money up to half of the time (no approach you can take will allow you to win all of the time). As the game progresses, you must adjust or the blinds will eat you up.

* Winning Heads-up Play – arguably one of the most misunderstood, yet most fun part of any tournament, is playing heads-up against another good player. Learning to play winning heads-up poker means the difference between being the Winner and 2nd Place – a huge difference in payout in all tournaments goes to the winner, along with the recognition as the champion, so you must learn to play great heads-up poker. In general, you must play much more aggressively heads up than you would otherwise.

* Beating Aggressive Players – see my article on playing vs. aggressive players, which will definitely make a difference for Sit and Go play, as it explains how to take advantage of aggressive and wild players, without losing all of your chips in the process.

* Online Tells – there are many different special tells that you can use when playing online. Do you know them? Do you use them? If not, chances are they’re being used against you! For example, when players use checkboxes online and make a lot of their decisions ahead of time, then suddenly they’re not using the checkbox (because they’re taking longer), that could be a tell that they’re having to think things through more, which could be a tell. If they use checkboxes and act instantly, chances are they don’t have a very good hand, so didn’t even need to think about it (just clicked the checkbox and now waiting on the next card).

* Successful Bluffing and Blind Stealing – one of the most important moves in poker is bluffing the opponents, and in tournament play, you must be capable of successfully bluffing in order to survive the blinds and antes and to win heads-up. You can’t bluff weak players, so don’t even try. You’ll need to learn how determine the style or type of the players, so you’ll recognize who to bluff.

The next time you’re thinking about playing a poker tournament, give the Sit and Go a try. It’s a fast-paced tournament, where you’ll have the opportunity to experience first hand what it’s like to play at that Texas Holdem poker tournament final table. You’ll go through a sequence of fast play and changing conditions, starting from a full table of 10 players, progressing rapidly to only 5 to 6. Then, if you’re a good enough player, you’ll find yourself in the most dangerous position of all – where you’re one of only 4 players remaining, so you’re only one seat out of the money. The key goal is surviving to the heads-up phase, so you get a shot at being the tournament winner, who receives the bulk of the prize pool.

So, you can practice for bigger tournament events by playing in Sit and Go tournaments and that way you’ll be very comfortable when you do make it that final table in a big Texas Holdem poker tournament, and you’ll have a lot of fun and gain some great Texas Holdem tournament poker experience along the way.

Online Gambling Strategies Review

There are so many gambling strategies out there right now and they would all have you believe that there’s is the one that will work and you will never need to work again. If only it were that simple!

Being the most gullible person on the planet, I have been sucked in to most of these “systems” and I am sorry to break it to you, but I always log off the online casino with an empty pocket. The most frustrating thing is, I haven’t fallen for it once, but several times.

Many of the online gambling systems revolve around roulette or blackjack and work on the old Martingale system. That is where every time you lose a bet you double your bet, so that when you eventually win, you win all your money back and then some. I actually believed this could work and have lost over $1000 on this method.

I also believe that online casinos are rigged. It is pretty obvious when you are covering most of the table with your bets and the one third you are not betting on doe s not come up for 18 times in a row (that happened to me).

There are other systems that use software, such as Roulette sniper and Roulette killer. They both work on the theory that if a certain section of numbers has not come up for a while, it will be due to come up soon. This is not how roulette works. I know, because I lost over $300 with this system.

So what about the really expensive systems such as the roulette robots that you take to the casinos to monitor the wheel? Well, I have not had the money to try these (they cost thousands of dollars) but all reviews say they are one big scam.

I have been so desperate for a quick fix for my financial problems that I was willing to believe anything. I don’t want the same thing to happen to you. Free systems do not work either. The website owners of easyfreeincome and docsmoney make money when you sign up to the casinos through their sites. They actually make money when you lose! Please do not believe their free advice. There are ways to make money online, but online gambling is not one of them.

Sit and Go Poker Strategy – Getting It All In Ahead

Apr 1st

The phrase “getting it all in ahead” has been used by many pros in their articles and comments which are meant to be used as valuable lessons to players learning the game or building their bankroll. However, getting it all in ahead is used far too often as a strategy in tournaments when given certain circumstances, it actually should be avoided.

Let’s clarify the phrase first. If you put all chips in the pot pre-flop with AA and your opponent calls you holding QQ, well you for sure got it all in ahead. In fact that’s about the best scenario you can hope for as you are better than a 4:1 favorite, and hey I am all up for plays like that.

Similar situations would be your pocket JJ versus a caller with 99. With a pair over pair your hand will do much better than say your AA showing up against suited connectors. But at 4:1 your +ev is so impressive that you should take that risk even during early stage, low blind levels of a sit and go tournament.

Now how about if you had pocket JJ and your opponent had the AcQc and you both went all in pre-flop? Sure you are likely to be ahead and you guessed right but your JJ is only a marginal favorite against AQs. It will win approximately 54% of the time. You got it all in ahead all right, but is it worth it?

Well in a cash game scenario if you did this all the days long, you will come out ahead, but not without some trials to your psyche. In a spot like this, playing sit and go poker tournaments with either hand, I want to see a flop and make sure it’s a flop that either helps my hand, or doesn’t help my opponent’s hand.

Because both are quality hands there is good reason to invest in them pre-flop, but not your whole stack!

In fact, your first concern should be to preserve your stack in early in the early going when blinds are low. Part of the reason for this is that low-entry, online tournament players often over play their hands enough that they create huge pots with marginal situations and although they may be right, there are usually victims in these hands too! But a fair amount of low limit players don’t really care about this either, they just want to play bravado style and show you they were right, even if they get sucked out on. Speaking of suck-outs, in the low limits going in ahead full charge, you better learn to deal with suck-outs in a big way.

The other major point about going all in early is that you often lose the chance to make the money later in that same tournament because you were willing to let it ride. If you really want to play like that, go play in the micro limits or free games because that’s where you can really push marginal edges and not really bother with the outcome. Suffice to say, while building your bankroll pushing 55/45 hands is not going to build your bankroll online.
